Varm - the vegan Farm
"Varm - the vegan farm" - is probably the only 100% vegan provider of "vacation on a farm" in southern Styria. Ideal for nature and animal lovers, dog lovers and above all vegans or those who want to become one.
After years of renovation and restoration, our country idyll and little paradise in southern Styria - the so-called Styrian Tuscany - has recently opened its doors to guests.
We welcome people and animals to our organic-vegan farm and accommodate them in the enchantingly romantic "Kellerstöckl", a restored winegrower's/press house, which has been designed and furnished in a harmonious mix of shabby-chic, country house and industrial style with some elements of autochthonous rural style. When restoring the house ourselves, we attached great importance to sustainable, organic materials and the re-use or upcycling of old objects.
Since we ourselves, as well as our dogs and, of course, our Cameroon sheep, which were saved from slaughter, live purely vegan lives, we also spoil our guests exclusively with vegan delicacies. We are passionate about surprising omnivores by showing them what is possible when veganized from classic cuisine and tempting them to rethink their eating habits - so far with great success for all guests who are not already vegan!
The entire farm area consisting of the main house, the cellar, old stables and farm buildings is fenced in and offers a sufficiently large garden area of approx. 3,000 square meters to enjoy a relaxed vacation with your dog. The directly adjacent areas - orchard, vineyard, meadows and vegetable field also belong to the farm and can also be used by guests if required.
As we have 3 dogs ourselves, who roam freely in the garden, frequent encounters and activities with the dogs are unavoidable - our two Labradors "Puma" and "Nelly" are real "fighting cuddlers", Ella (the black and white one in the pictures), a Greek guard dog from a shelter in Euboea, Greece, guards the courtyard and all the residents with suspicious eyes and great zeal. However, it can sometimes take two or three days before she recognizes guests as "residents". The dogs roam freely in the fenced yard area (approx. 3,000 square meters), which must also be entered or crossed to reach the guest house.
Therefore, the domicile is rather unsuitable for people who are afraid of dogs or who feel affected by them, as well as for small children in general.
The entire cottage can be booked as a short or long-term vacation apartment, has a bedroom with double bed and single bed, anteroom, bathroom with bath, shower, toilet and washing machine as well as a fully equipped kitchen with cozy dining area, a total of about 55 square meters and plenty of space in front of and around the house for outdoor activities.
You are also welcome to visit us with your dog - in this case, however, we would ask you to contact us personally in advance to arrange a time if things don't work out so well with the four-pawed friends (but so far this has not been a problem).
Here on the border between the district of Deutschlandsberg and the district of Leibnitz, the landscape of the foothills of the Koralpen massif (Western Styria) to the west of us combines with the unmistakable rugged hills of Styrian Tuscany to the east and offers the ideal starting point for both mountain hikes (Koralpe wine plain in approx. 30 min by car) and tours along the wine route (Gamlitz / Ehrenhausen approx. 30 min, Leutschach approx. 20 min by car). Despite the secluded location of the farm, the GKB local train station is only 600m away, yet you won't hear the occasional train at the farm. With the local train you can reach the charming center of Graz, Austria's second largest city, comfortably and stress-free in just under an hour directly without changing trains. Bicycles can also be taken on the trains to Graz free of charge.
